1. Participants will draw lots to determine their starting position on the tournament bracket.

2. In the event that the number of participants is not an exponent of 2, some lucky participants will receive an automatic free pass to the next round, depending on the lots drawn.

3. There will be 5 rounds in total, including the Grand Finals. For Round 1, participants have a choice of pouring a Heart shape, Tulip or Rosetta. The subsequent rounds will be a free-for-all latte art, so you can pour any free pour design you wish.

4. There will be a 3rd and 4th place decider round

5. Once both participants’ cups are on the judges’ table, they will take a vote to decide who will be eliminated, and who will be advancing onto the next round. The judging criteria is based on the overall look of the cup, such as symmetry, complexity, and contrast.

6. Espresso shots will be prepared by TCR’s Coffee Educator(s). There is no need to pull your own shots, so you can focus on getting ready and prepping your milk frothing station.

7. Each participant will be given 1 chance and a total of 2mins to froth milk and pour their latte art. Only 1 cup needs to be presented to the judges.

General entry is free for non-throwdown participants! Feel free to drop by our studio to support the Throwdown participants, watch the action and visit our partner booths.

Milk, cups and coffee will be provided to ensure consistency across all pours in the competition.

Milk pitchers are available at the studio, but it is highly recommended to bring your own.

The machine that we will be using is the Breville Dual Boiler.
